Ancient Races Storyline: Who Are The Sistrell

This entry will highlight one element of the three storylines associated with the Sy’Arrian Legacy Series. When it comes to storylines, depending on the breadth of your created world, three should be your maximum. Large or small, creating too many will serve to not only confuse the reader but yourself as well; however, let us save why this is the case for another time.

Located on the planet of Dramulus, Sistrell primarily communicate telepathically with an ability to see the thoughts of those linked with them. This nuance makes it extremely difficult for other sentient beings to mask nefarious intentions. Sistrell can also perform a telepathic sweep of a small area to determine who previously occupied the space or check for hidden enemies. They will utilize verbal communication with other races, even though it is viewed as a lower form of communication and generally discouraged. Sistrell will often attempt to telepathically link with other races first unless the other party insists on conversing verbally.

Although bipedal, due to their molecular structure, they tend to float or hover in most planetary atmospheres. They are dark skinned, which tends to take on an ashen appearance as they age. There are small pockets of the population who display a purplish and crimson appearance. Eye colors fluctuate between green, yellow, and red with narrow pupils. Their skeletal structure is similar to humans with slender facial and cranial features, small noses, ears appear as holes in their heads, and slender appendages.

Sistrell appear fragile, which is quite the opposite as they are highly agile and have mastered their hovering ability to such an extent, they are nearly impossible to track once they go into a defensive mode. When confronted they are adept fighters using their flexible bodies to throw an enemy off balance, using energy and weight against them.

There are male and female Sistrell, but they do not mate in the sense most races are familiar. Due to their longevity, roughly 4,000 years, when a Sistrell transitions to the next phase of life, another takes its place. Birth transpires at the molecular level and only occurs when another deceases. Referred to as fresh borns, newly living Sistrell are half grown, carrying the knowledge and history of the entire race in their being, making them less helpless than human babies.

Societal structure is strata based on a system comprised of Educators, often referred to as Philosophers, Warriors, Spiritual Guides, and Cultivators. Cultivators strictly see to matters associated with transition, i.e. birth and death. This structure includes their governmental body known as the Raka Circle, which contains one representative from each individual stratum: Calari (Educators/Philosophers), Taramis (Warriors), Breyoul (Spiritual Guides), and Estry (Cultivators).

Sistrell do not have, what can be construed as “normal” living structures as it relates to the formation of cities or overall planetary structures. Given they are an ancient race much of the usual pleasantries and amenities are neither needed nor desired.

The environment of Dramulus contains various muted hues of blacks, purples, dark pinks, and reds. There are discernible landmasses but most of the Sistrell population is housed on the largest land mass much like the super continent structure of Earth’s evolutionary past. Oceans and water elements consist of an effervescent substance, equipped with various life forms who tend to have gelatinous appearances and thin skeletal forms. The bodies of water themselves have deep purples, pinks, and greens. This substance is vital to their survival, serving as sustenance for them much like H2O does for humans.

Initially, the planet appears uninhabited due to its unusual appearance and almost barren nature. The Sistrell’s thriving population is housed beneath the planet’s cavernous surface within an elaborate tunnel system. As a species they comingle leaving no walls to separate them from one another. Where there are structures, such as those enveloping their birthing chambers, they are formed from the natural surroundings and usually are dome shaped. There is a distinct internal structure where the Raka Circle gather to conduct governmental affairs. Traditional edifices non-ancient races are accustomed to such as schools, personal housing and places of commerce are not necessary due to their social structure. The Sistrell learn, teach, and share information on a telepathic level.

Sistrell only need periods of rest once every 30-day cycle. Resting chambers are housed throughout the tunnel structure embedded in cavern walls. The resting orbs blend in with the walls and can only be identified by their smooth surfaces. The resting process is staggered so essential functions within their society can be maintained indefinitely.

Much like the other ancient races, the Sistrell have a sizable space force comprised mostly of medium and large ships. As expected, the Sistrell’s technology aboard their ships surpasses most of the standard races. Small ships used for exploration of planets or infiltrations into hostile sectors are generally kept aboard the larger vessels. There is no militaristic structure aboard these ships, where any Sistrell can be called upon to perform a variety of functions. There are groups comprised of members from each stratum who perform core duties in certain areas but none of them are constrained to only those duties. The Sistrell are a prime example of a fully integrated and diverse race with no ego or personal issues clouding their judgment.
