Probably one of the most important types of characters in any story, the contrarian, one who provides an unlimited stream of sage advice often laced in some form of sarcasm, is the one who will keep your protagonist from straying too far from their intended purpose.

Ancient Races Storyline: Who Are The Ellezians
Comprised of pure energy, the Ellezians can take humanoid form at will with a preference to remain neutral in the affairs of the lessor races. When they do interact with those outside of their race, Ellezians are highly mischievous and cantankerous.
